STRASBOURG (Sputnik) – The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted a resolution Wednesday calling on member states of the Council of Europe to ensure the protection of the organization’s standards and values while tackling terrorism.
In the resolution, the Assembly calls on the parliaments and governments of 47 member states to ensure that, in their fight against terrorism, "a state of emergency is limited to the shortest possible period of time and space."
The resolution also urges to cut the financial lifelines of international terrorism and arms trafficking.
The UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2253 on December 17, expanding sanctions from al-Qaeda to the Islamic State (ISIL) jihadist group and urging members to cut terrorist financing.
