Another, less aggressive strategy proposed by Kramer involves providing financial support to media agencies broadcasting in Russia and in Eastern Europe.
During the interview, Kramer also accused Russia of a full-scale 'invasion' of Ukraine and of deploying ground troops to Syria to fight against opposition groups instead of Daesh.
Sputnik's press service pointed out that the measures proposed by Kramer violate two core European principles: freedom of speech and of the freedom of the press. It went on to highlight that for a man who used to be the head of Freedom House to voice these ideas was especially bizarre, given that the organization was supposedly dedicated to the promotion of the principles of freedom and democracy in the world.
Sputnik is an international media agency that broadcasts in over 30 languages and operates in strict accordance with laws regulating media activity, the press service added.
