"The sides discussed issues of Russia-Syria military and military-technical cooperation, including the results of the Russian air operation aimed at eliminating terrorist groups," the ministry said in a statement.
The two officials also exchanged opinions about the current security situation in the Middle East.
"The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere and confirmed that both parties were intent on boosting every aspect of cooperation between defense ministries," the statement concluded.
The Russian Aerospace Forces have been carrying out airstrikes against terrorist targets in Syria at the request of Damascus since September 30, 2015. Russia coordinates its military actions with the Syrian army which is operating on the ground.
Russia, Syria, Iraq, and Iran set up a data sharing center in Baghdad last fall to coordinate efforts in the fight against the Islamic State terrorist group, outlawed in many countries including Russia.
