“Russian special services uncovered that certain Daesh cells are plotting terrorist attacks in Russia and European countries,” spokesman for the Russian National Anti-Terrorist Committee Andrey Przhezdomsky warned on Friday.
Russian special services prevented all attempts to carry out terror acts in the country in 2015, the spokesman added.
The United States designated "a commander of the Daesh Chechen faction" Chatayev as a global terrorist in October 2015. He is considered one of the main Daesh recruiters in Russia.
Meanwhile, the first deputy head of the Russian National Anti-Terror Committee announced that terrorists are trying to come through the Balkan Peninsula to other European countries.
"Information about the presence of militants in the Balkans emerges. Both the special services of the Balkan countries and Russia have this data… These militants are preparing to penetrate further into Europe," Evgeny Ilin told journalists.
The international community is currently seeking a united approach to the fight against terrorism and measures to curb the radicalization of population in Europe, as some 5,000 European citizens have left to join terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq.
Daesh, which is outlawed in Russia, is currently considered to be one the main threats to global security. According to reports, Daesh jihadists are trying to expand their influence in North African countries, particularly in Libya.
