ANKARA (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Turkish media suggested that six companies, namely Enerco Enerji, Avrasya Gaz, Bosphorus Gaz, Shell Enerji, Bati Hatti and Kibar Enerji, that import 10 billion cubic meters of Russian gas a year, were no longer able to use Gazprom's discount.
"The information that Gazprom cancelled the 10.25-percent discounts for Turkish companies, effective from January 1, 2015, is not true," the source told RIA Novosti.
According to the source, Gazprom is unable to change contract price or cancel discount unilaterally, such issues must be negotiated by sides during a six-month period.
The reports came against the backdrop of strained relations between Moscow and Ankara following the downing of a Russian Su-24 attack aircraft over Syria by a Turkish jet in November over alleged airspace violation.
In December, Russia introduced a set of economic measures against Turkey in response to the incident.
