MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The reported deal between Iran’s national oil company NIOC and French oil major Total is yet to be finalized, an informed source at the Iranian Petroleum Ministry told Sputnik on Friday.
"The accord agreed on with the French company Total is a declaration of intent and no other agreement has been reached yet. Time has been allocated for talks so that a final agreement could be reached," the source at the ministry said.
The source added that progress had been made in Iran’s negotiations on oil trade with the Russian energy company Lukoil.
Total reportedly plans to buy between 150,000 and 200,000 barrels of Iranian crude a day under an accord that was signed Thursday during Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s trip to Paris.
