MADRID (Sputnik) — Spanish King Felipe VI's sister is facing a prison sentence of up to eight years for allegedly failing to declare taxes on personal expenses paid by a real estate company she co-owned with her husband.
Infanta Cristina of Spain will stand trial with the company’s 16 employees after a Spanish court rejected her bid to pay an administrative fine for tax evasion, El Pais newspaper said.
The royal heir is set to testify by February 26.
The tax fraud trial marks the first time a member of Spain's royal family has faced criminal charges since the monarchy was reinstalled in 1975.
