CHISINAU (Sputnik) — Rallies in the Moldovan capital Chisinau erupted last week after the government of the former Soviet republic appointed Pavel Filip from the Democratic Party a new prime minister.
"I am calling on all citizens to be ready to mobilize for large-scale protests on Saturday or Sunday," Our Party (Partidul Nostru) leader Renato Usatii said in Chisinau.
Igor Dodon, the leader of the Party of Socialists, said earlier they would join in the demonstration, but vowed that the action would be peaceful.
Opposition parties gave the national government until Thursday to meet their demands, including a snap parliamentary election.
An estimated 20,000 to 100,000 people from the coalition of opposition forces – Socialists, Our Party and the Civic Platform Dignity and Truth (DA) – rallied in central Chisinau last week, blocking several roads.
