MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The testing of a mobile security robot designed to protect launch sites of Russian ballistic missiles will be completed by the end of 2016, Commander of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces, Col. Gen. Sergei Karakayev said Friday.
"In 2016, we began testing a new automated security system armed with an auto-cannon at one of the missile regiments," Karakayev said in an interview with Rossiya-24 television.
"I hope that we will achieve desired results by the end of the year," the general said.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the security bots will carry out reconnaissance and patrol missions, detect and destroy stationary or moving targets and provide fire support for security personnel at the guarded facilities.
