MOSCOW (Sputnik) – At least three separate groups of snowmobilers were caught in the avalanche, CBC said on Friday citing the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Five people were killed, while at least six lost their snowmobiles and had to be shuttled off the mountain.
One person was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition, CBC added citing British Columbia Emergency Health Services.
A spokesperson for Avalanche Canada said as quoted by CBC that the Friday avalanche near McBride was "very large" and "significant" and was human-triggered.
McBride is located in the north Rocky Mountains about 210 kilometers (130 miles) southeast of Prince George. The village boasts world-famous snowmobiling trails.
