MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Austria's economic relations with Russia have deteriorated sharply due to the 2014 Ukrainian conflict, as all EU member states imposed a series of economic sanctions against Moscow over its alleged interference in Kiev's domestic affairs.
Austrian exports to Russia declined by about 39 percent in 2015, according to the Austrian Institute of Economic Research.
"Dmitry Medvedev and Reinhold Mitterlehner will discuss urgent issues on the bilateral economic agenda with an emphasis on boosting bilateral trade and strengthening ties in energy, cultural and humanitarian areas," the Russian government's press service said in a statement.
Mitterlehner, who also serves as the federal minister of science, research and economy, will also attend a session of the Austrian-Russian Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation during his visit.
Austria’s high-ranking politician will head a delegation made up of representatives of the country’s leading companies, a statement provided to Sputnik by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Science, Research and Economy confirmed in late January.
