MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The share of modern and modernized aircraft in the Russian Aerospace Forces amounts to 52 percent, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Tuesday.
"The Russian Aerospace Forces have over 3,000 planes and helicopters. At the same time the share of modern and modernized units amounts to 52 percent," the minister said.
Shoigu pointed out that aviation regiments continued to receive super-maneuverable Su-35S multirole fighters, Su-34 bombers as well as Mi-28N and Ka-52 modern attack helicopters.
The defense minister emphasized the growing role aviation played in national security and defense.
In December 2015, Shoigu said that the Russian Aerospace Forces and the navy would receive over 200 modern and modernized aviation hardware units in 2016.
