Last Friday, a spokesman for the South Korean Defense Ministry welcomed the deployment of THAAD as a way to "help our national security and defense."
"Russia believes that the deployment of THAAD in South Korea will not be helpful to peace and security in Northeast Asia nor to the resolution of the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula," the Yonhap news service quoted Timonin as saying in a meeting with reporters.
The United States has raised the possibility of a THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) battery deployment in East Asia in the past, a decision the Pentagon says will be made through the trilateral Japan-South Korea-US security alliance.
China has opposed the THAAD deployment, arguing it could upset the regional balance and be used against Chinese interests.
