NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — An alleged Islamic State (ISIL), also known as Daesh, recruiter was arrested in the central Indian city of Bhopal, a source in India's National Investigation Agency (NIA) said Wednesday, as quoted by local media.
"Azhar and other suspects were in constant touch with ISIS [IS] members in Syria through Internet chatting applications like 'Signal' and 'Trillion' and were using social networking sites to motivate youths to join ISIS," the source was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
In January, NIA detained 14 people suspected of belonging to Janood-ul-Khalifa-e-Hind or the Army of Caliph of India, a local branch of the Islamic State jihadist group, which is outlawed in Russia. The suspects were detained on suspicion of planning attacks on various important sites in India.
