UN-mediated talks involving government and opposition delegations from Syria kicked off last Friday. At the same time, the Syrian army reportedly launched an offensive against rebel-held areas near Aleppo.
"The escalation in Russian airstrikes in Aleppo is complicating… the negotiations," Sawsan Chebli told reporters, describing the peace process as difficult and prone to reversal.
Russia's Defense Ministry said on Monday that it carried out 468 sorties and destroyed over 1,300 terrorist targets in Syria over the past week, including a militant-controlled fuel depot in Aleppo.
Russian warplanes have been flying bombing missions in Syria since last September at Damascus' request. The strikes target infrastructure belonging to radical militants, such as the Russia-outlawed Islamic State (ISIL), also known as Daesh, terrorist group.
