TUNIS (Sputnik) – Russia is ready to develop bilateral cooperation with Tunisia in fighting terrorism, Russia's ambassador to the country, Sergey Nikolaev, told Sputnik on Wednesday.
"We discussed deepening cooperation, military relations, when I met Tunisia's Defense Minister Farhat Horchani in September. Tunisia has the capabilities to combat terrorism, and it will yield results," the diplomat said.
He added that, taking into account Russia and Tunisia's long-standing relations and the common threats they face, Russia is willing to contribute to the Tunisian authorities' countererrorism efforts.
Last year, Tunisia was shaken by two terrorist attacks — at the Tunis Bardo National Museum in March and at a beach resort in the town of Sousse in June. The two mass shootings, carried out by Islamists, killed a combined total of about 60 civilians, mostly foreign tourists.
