WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Senator for Kentucky Rand Paul is ending his campaign for the White House, according to a statement issued by the senator on Wednesday.
"It's been an incredible honor to run a principled campaign for the White House," Paul stated. "Today, I will end where I began, ready and willing to fight for the cause of Liberty.
The senator quit the race after finishing fifth in Republican Iowa caucuses on Monday. Paul gained 4.5 percent in caucus voter support, while the Iowa Republican winner Senator Ted Cruz received 27.6 percent.
"I will continue to carry the torch for Liberty in the United States Senate and I look forward to earning the privilege to represent the people of Kentucky for another term," Paul said.
US presidential elections are scheduled for November 8.
