MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The poll conducted by the Center for International and Security Studies at Maryland showed that 71 percent of the surveyed view the Russian operation in Syria as sincere and aimed at fighting the Daesh terrorist group.
According to the poll, 74 percent of Iranians disapprove of US involvement in Syria and 66 percent see US efforts against Daesh as insincere, while only 17 percent said US effort in Syria is motivated by the objective of defeating Daesh.
About 69 percent of the polled consider US operation an attempt to increase US influence and power in the region.
The interviews were carried out between December 29 and January 15.
Since September 30, Moscow has been conducting pinpoint airstrikes in Syria at the request by President Bashar Assad, on the Daesh positions, a group outlawed in Russia and many other countries.
The US-led international coalition, which includes Saudi Arabia, Turkey and France among other states, has been carrying out a separate campaign against Daesh in Syria since 2014 without the approval from either the UN Security Council or the Syrian government.
