Warsaw's Revisionism: Russia Slams Desecration of Soviet Statues in Poland
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia's Foreign Ministry expressed its concern on Friday with an incident of vandalism involving a Soviet war memorial containing Soviet soldiers' graves in Hungary.

On February 1, a Soviet World War II-era memorial dedicated to Soviet soldiers killed during the liberation of Hungary from Nazi occupation was vandalized by unknown attackers in the village of Csor in Fejer сounty. A marble slate was reportedly damaged, while four obelisks were knocked down, one of them was damaged irreversibly.

"The incident is a cause for concern, especially in light of the artificially escalated tension in several Central and Eastern European capitals around Russian war graves dating back to World War II and Soviet-built liberation monuments," the ministry said in a statement.

Moscow Summons Polish Diplomat Over Soviet Soldier Grave Desecrations
The Hungarian authorities have a positive track record of addressing Soviet memorial vandalism, the ministry said, expressing hope that those responsible for Monday's act would to be brought to justice and that the monument would be restored.

The Soviet war cemetery in Csor is located opposite the village hall. The cemetery contains the remains of over 170 Soviet soldiers killed during World War II, with the soldiers' names immortalized in engravings.

Some 1,000 Soviet war cemeteries are located in Hungary, with over 95,000 Soviet soldiers buried across Hungary. Of these, over 700 graves in 24 burial sites contain the remains of Soviet soldiers killed during the 1956 uprising.

Incidents involving the desecration of Soviet war grave occur regularly across Eastern Europe, mainly in Poland and Hungary.
