"The Palestinian President [Mahmoud Abbas] spoke unequivocally in favor of Russia’s actions in Syria. He supports the need to fight Daesh," Matvienko told the broadcaster Rossiya-24 after a working visit to Palestine where she met Abbas.
Matvienko led the Federation Council delegation on its official visit to Israel and Palestine that began on Tuesday.
On Thursday, the senior Russian lawmaker said she had received assurances from Israeli President Reuven Rivlin that Tel Aviv supported Moscow in its stance on Syria, adding that he had asserted the need for collective efforts to combat terrorism.
Russia began a counterterrorism aerial mission in Syria last September, after the Russian parliament approved a request for support from the Syrian leadership.
