WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States calls on Russia to take up President Barack Obama's offer to engage in talks on nuclear reduction, US National Security Advisor Susan Rice said in a statement on Friday.
"We look forward to full implementation of the Treaty and continue to call on Russia to answer the President’s invitation five years ago to begin talks on further reductions to our nuclear arsenals," Rice stated.
"The United States remains committed to reducing the numbers of nuclear weapons in the world and the role they play in our security," Rice said.
She made the statement on the five-year anniversary of the signing of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START), which limits the nuclear capabilities of the United States and Russia.
On Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Moscow plans to further implement the New START provisions in an example of Russia's strict compliance with its international obligations concerning non-proliferation and arms control.
