Volkov began to post the pictures of Russian cities from space on January 25 and has so far made 16 photographs, including Vladivostok, Voronezh, Orenburg, Saratov, Tambov, as well as the pictures of Egyptian pyramids, the African continent, Geneva, Minsk and Ukraine's Odessa.
The pictures of cities at night are spectacular, showing already familiar places from a new, different angle. Volkov takes pictures based on comments of Internet users, who tell them which city they'd like to see next.
"I will try to take pictures of cities, which you ask me to, but unfortunately the flight trajectory of our station can only cover a small part of our country," Volkov shared his thoughts in his Vkontakte social media account.
Volkov is currently a member of the international team of cosmonauts working at the International Space Station (ISS).
