MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The 75-year-old general was arrested on Saturday as some 150 people gathered in Calais for a protest organized by the Pegida anti-islamization movement, defying a ban on rallies.
According to the French RFI radio station, Piquemal will face up to a year in prison for participating in an unlawful assembly. People arrested along with him also face charges of possessing banned weapons.
Tens of thousands of Pegida supporters held rallies across Europe on Saturday. Dozens were arrested.
