North Korea’s missile launch will lead to the worsening of the situation on the Korean peninsula and is a blow to the international system of non-proliferation of nuclear arms, the Xinhua news agency said in a piece also published on the Chinese Defense Ministry's website.

BEIJING (Sputnik) – Earlier this week, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) confirmed it had received North Korea's notification of plans to launch a satellite between February 8 and 25. Pyongyang later changed the launch dates by one day.

"On February 7, DPRK used a carrier rocket to launch a satellite… In just over a month DPRK violated the UN Security Council resolution for the second time, this launch is a blow to the international system of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, it will lead to further worsening of the situation on the Korean peninsula," the piece read.
