Russian cosmonauts Yury Malenchenko and Sergei Volkov conducted a spacewalk on the International Space Station (ISS). They performed an experiment called "Restoration," as part of the Russian plan of repair works on the ISS.
Sputnik presents a gallery of amazing photos taken by the two cosmonauts in outer space.
The goal of the experiment was applying new thermal insulating materials to the outside surface of the ISS, as part of scheduled repair works.

Initially, it was supposed that Volkov and Malenchenko would don the new Russian spacesuit – Orlan-MKS, with an automatic thermoregulation system. However, the new suits have not yet been delivered to the ISS, so they were working in standard Orlan-MK spacesuits.

During the spacewalk, the cosmonauts dismantled an outside container with organic and biological samples.

The recent spacewalk was the sixth for Yury Malenchenko and the fourth – for Sergei Volkov. Currently, they are working aboard the ISS together with Russia’s Mikhail Kornienko, NASA astronauts Scott Kelly and Timothy Kopra, and ESA astronaut Timothy Peak.

It was not the first time when ISS crew members have taken selfies in outer space. On August 17, 2014, Russian cosmonaut Gennadiy Padalka published a selfie he had taken during his tenth spacewalk.
