Russian Labor Ministry Expects Unemployment to Remain Below 6% in 2016

The Russian labor minister said the unemployment rate in 2016 was expected to remain under 6 percent.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Russian Labor Ministry expects that the unemployment rate in the country will remain under 6 percent in 2016, Labor Minister Maxim Topilin said Tuesday.

“We believe that this will be no higher than 6 percent for the year…In December, there was no growth. We believe that the average will not exceed 6 percent for the year, that’s the average figure,” Topilin said.

According to Rosstat, the country’s unemployment rate stood at 5.8 percent in December 2015.
