MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian air defense troops of the Southern Military District carried out exercises on detecting simulated enemy aircraft as part of the district’s combat readiness snap drills, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
“About eight different types of aircraft tested air defense units on combat duty by simulating perpetrators of the [Russian] airspace as test targets,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the aircraft tried to pass the air defense radars and anti-aircraft missile systems unnoticed, flying at extremely low altitudes in day and night time.
The performance of the troops and the equipment will be evaluated after the snap drills are complete, the statement added.
