MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Floods hit several districts of the state due to rain and high tide, the Malaysian National News Agency said.
The evacuees were transferred to 28 relief centers across the state until floodwaters recede, according to the media outlet.
Local officials said the situation was under control after successfully installing a dam to control the water movement in the Sarawak river, as well as distributing humanitarian aid to the victims, the news agency added.
Heavy rains also caused the evacuation of 4,600 Malaysians in Malacca, the southwestern state, earlier in the day.
