MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia is prepared to discuss the issue of a possible ceasefire in Syria, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said Thursday.
“This is why we’re going. We’re ready to discuss the issue of a modelled ceasefire,” Gatilov said ahead of the International Syrian Support Group meeting in Munich.
The Riyadh group of the Syrian opposition are to blame for upsetting the intra-Syrian reconciliation talks in Geneva and all questions should be directed to them, but Damascus is ready to reconvene, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said Thursday.
“Let those who upset the negotiations answer. The Riyadh group upset [the meeting], which means all questions should be addressed to them. The [Syrian] government is ready [to reconvene] as far as I know,” Gatilov said ahead of the International Syrian Support Group meeting in Munich.
Syria has been mired in a civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting a number of opposition factions and extremist groups, such as Daesh, which is banned in a range of countries, including Russia.
