MUNICH (Sputnik) – Kurds are an integral part of the Syrian conflict, that's why it is crucial that they take part in its settlement, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Friday.
"Of course, Kurds are part of the conflict, they are part of the conflict in Syria, but also in Iraq. And therefore they should also be part of the solution, because all parties have to contribute to the peaceful and negotiated solution in Syria," Stoltenberg told reporters.
Syrian Kurds have been fighting against the Daesh militant group, which is outlawed in many countries, including Russia, for years and have already liberated vast Syrian territories from Daesh control.
The main Syrian Kurdish party, the Democratic Union Party (PYD), was not invited to the UN-backed reconciliation talks between Damascus and the Syrian opposition in Geneva, which started on January 29 and were later postponed until February 25.
