MUNICH (Sputnik) – The stalled Syrian proximity talks should resume as soon as possible, though there is so far no fixed date for the negotiations, UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said Friday on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference (MSC).
"As soon as possible, but there is no date fixed," he told journalists, answering a question when the intra-Syrian talks may resume in the Swiss city of Geneva.
Damascus and the Syrian opposition began the UN-backed reconciliation talks in late January, which were later suspended. The negotiations are expected to resume in late February.
The conference was organized in line with the UN Security Council's December resolution that stipulated that the entire spectrum of political factions in the crisis-torn country should be brought to the negotiating table.
