MOSCOW/ATHENS (Sputnik) – The arrests were carried out by port authority officials in the northeastern port city of Alexandroupolis, according to the faros24 online news outlet, which claimed the two suspects were Iraqi nationals.
The city’s alexpoli.gr outlet said officials seized over 3,300 magnum handguns, pistols and thousands of bullets after inspecting the suspects’ caravan.
The outlet said the suspects, who did not appear to be listed in European terror or criminal databases, were British citizens staying at a hotel.
Officials expect to refer the two to the prosecutor on charges of weapon possession and terrorism-related offenses on Sunday.
