Earlier this week TV Channel France 2 showed footage of Russian planes bombing Daesh, claiming them to be the work of the US-led international coalition. The French state-funded media also accused Moscow of not bombing Daesh and “targeting civilians” all the while showing footage, originally released by the Russian Defense Ministry.
“This ‘bombing plagiarism’ marks a new low in the increasingly desperate anti-Russian propaganda war,” Clark wrote for RT.
According to Clark, all of these lies are happening because the Russian anti-Daesh campaign in Syria is exposing lies that Western governments have been trying to work on – an attempt to change regime and the Balkanization of Syria – all under the pretext of the “war on terror.”
To prove his point, the British journalist brought up a declassified secret US intelligence document, which said that the “possibility of establishing a declared or undeclared Salafist principality [in Syria was] exactly what the supporting powers to the opposition want, in order to isolate the Syrian regime.”
“The US and its allies weren’t only supporting and arming an opposition they knew to be dominated by extreme sectarian groups; they were prepared to countenance the creation of some sort of “Islamic State”… as a Sunni buffer to weakening Syria,” Clark cited the words of the Guardian’s Seumas Milne, who investigated the secret US document.
It’s obvious that average US, British and French citizens want to see Daesh defeated and would certainly not be happy to find out that their own governments don’t want Daesh to be destroyed, Clark wrote.
In an attempt to somehow solve this problem and cover their lies, Western governments began to claim Russia’s anti-Daesh actions as their own successes, while continuing to criticize Russian actions in Syria, the British journalist explained.
In reality, the US-led anti-Daesh campaign isn’t bombing Daesh hard enough. If the coalition claims that there have been over 3,200 airstrikes in Daesh-held areas since September 2014, then why does the Western media use Russian footage?
