"At the request of the Government of Iraq, the Director-General sent a team of experts to assist Iraq in its investigations regarding the possible use of chemical weapons on its territory," Malik Ellahi, Acting Spokesperson for the OPCW, told Sputnik.
"The team completed its mission and the OPCW has shared the results of its technical work with the Government of Iraq. The complete findings and conclusions can be expected to be issued by the government of Iraq together with the OPCW inputs," Ellahi said.
Earlier in the day, Reuters reported that OPCW laboratory samples proved that Daesh terrorist group used mustard gas in an offensive against Kurdish forces in Iraq in 2015. According to the agency's diplomatic source, the gas was used to sicken 35 Kurdish soldiers in August.
On Friday, CIA Director John Brennan said Daesh, a terrorist group outlawed in many countries around the world including the United States and Russia, used chemical weapons in Syria and Iraq and had capacity to produce small amounts of mustard gas or chlorine gas and possibly export it to the Western countries.
On Tuesday, US National Intelligence Director James Clapper said an investigation into an alleged Daesh attack in Syria in August revealed that at least two people were exposed to sulfur mustard.
