BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — Suspects were detained in nine raids that took place in the early morning in four Brussels neighborhoods – Sint-Jans-Molenbeek, Koekelberg, Schaarbeek and Etterbeek – at the request of an investigation judge in the city of Liege.
"Searches were carried out in the framework of an investigation into a recruiting network linked to the Islamic State [Daesh]," the prosecution said in a statement.
Purported Daesh recruiters, who are suspected of sending foreigners to fight in Syria, were held for questioning. The judge will decide later on Tuesday whether they should be held in custody.
Dozens of police raids have been conducted across Belgium since the November 13 attack by Daesh militants in neighboring France.
