SINGAPORE (Sputnik) — Iranian airline Iran Air signed a deal to buy 20 regional passenger planes from the world’s leading turboprop manufacturer ATR, the carrier said Tuesday.
"The agreement includes firm orders for 20 aircraft plus 20 options, and is valued at one billion euro," the Iranian company said in a press release.
The agreement, signed in Tehran, will mark the arrival of the newest generation of ATRs in the country that has been under international sanctions for decades.
Iran Air said the deal would create a "strong potential for the development and expansion of domestic traffic and routes."
According to the French-Italian manufacturer, ATRs are the best-selling regional aircraft for below-90-seats size, representing 77 percent of global orders for turboprops.
