MOSCOW (Sputnik), Alexander Mosesov — On Tuesday, UN Security Council President Rafael Ramirez stated that the council has held a meeting at Russia's request to address Turkey's artillery fire attacks on positions inside Syria.
"NATO is not involved in Syria, so please refer to the Turkish authorities," the official said.
On Saturday, Turkey’s Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Turkish forces shelled Kurdish YPG positions in northern Syria as a retaliatory measure within the rules of engagement. Similar artillery attacks have continued since.
Earlier on Wednesday, Senam Mohamed, co-chair of the People's Council of Western Kurdistan — the governing body of the autonomous region — said the international community and the UN Security Council should exert pressure on Turkey to stop its military offensive against Kurds in northern Syria.
UN Security Council Resolution 2254, passed in December 2015, reaffirms the goals of previous agreements to end the bombardment of civilians in Syria, bring Syria’s political groups to the negotiating table and promote a lasting political resolution of the crisis.
