The four cities competing to host the 2024 Summer Olympics have submitted their projects to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in line with the Olympic Agenda 2020, IOC President Thomas Bach said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Olympic Agenda 2020 roadmap, proposed by Bach and accepted by the IOC in December 2014, comprises 40 points, which include provisions for sharing Olympic events between two host cities, reducing the cost of the bidding process and allowing for more sustainable events planning with consideration for long-term economic and environmental planning.

"Los Angeles, Rome, Budapest and Paris are all submitting projects fully in line with Olympic Agenda 2020. It is impressive to see how they have incorporated the Olympic project into the long-term development plans of their city, region and country. Coming from different starting points, for all four there is a clear focus on sustainable development, legacy and in particular how the facilities are going to be used after the Olympic Games," Bach said in a statement published on the committee's website.

The IOC is now set to analyze each city's file through three stages, which involve working groups reporting to the IOC Executive Board on aspects such as Games Concept and Strategy, Legal and Venue Funding and Games Delivery, Experience and Venue Legacy, according to the IOC statement. The final stage's deadline has been set for February 3, 2017, with the host city for the 2024 Olympic Games due to be selected in September 2017.

Bidding for the 2024 Summer Olympics began in 2015. The games were initially contested between five potential host cities, with Germany's Hamburg withdrawing its bid in November 2015 after 52 percent of its residents voted against the bid.
