"We are the first confectionery factory in Russia to start production in Europe," factory co-owner Andrei Muravyev said, according to mixnews.lv.
The company plans to make over 10,000 tonnes of chocolate in the first year of its Latvia operations, of which 705 would be exported to other EU countries, the United States, South America and Middle East. The factory currently employs 25 people, although it is expected to increase the number to 75 as production increases.
Pobeda is one of several Russian businesses opening factories in EU states because of high EU customs tariffs. In 2014, Russian cosmetics company Natura Siberica opened a factory in Estonia.
