01:40 GMT 18.02.2016 (Updated: 17:07 GMT 31.07.2023) European leaders have solidly condemned the car bomb explosion in Turkey’s capital, Ankara, that took place on Wednesday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – European leaders have condemned the car bomb explosion in Turkey’s capital, Ankara, that took the lives of at least 28 people.
"Another terrible attack hit the centre of Ankara tonight. The EU extends condolences to the families of the victims killed in the attack and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured. Our fullest sympathy goes to the Turkish people and authorities," EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini and European Neighbourhood Policy Commissioner Johannes Hahn said in a joint Wednesday statement.
The attack was also condemned by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
French President Francois Hollande called it a "heinous attack" expressing solidarity with the Turkish people.

The explosion took place at a military housing complex near the Turkish parliament building in Ankara on Wednesday. A fire then broke out at the site of the explosion.
At least 28 people were killed and over 60 were injured.
Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu cancelled his visit to Brussels in the wake of the attack.
No group has claimed responsibility for the blast so far.
