WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US President Barack Obama has signed a bill imposing new sanctions against Pyongyang, the White House announced in a statement on Thursday.
“On Thursday, February 18, 2016, the President signed into law: H.R. 757, the "North Korea Sanctions and Policy Enhancement Act," which strengthens and expands statutory sanctions on North Korea,” the statement said.
On February 7, North Korea launched a long-range rocket that placed a satellite into orbit.
The United Nations swiftly condemned the launch, saying it defied a Security Council resolution banning North Korea from launching rockets that could be used as ballistic missiles to carry nuclear warheads.
