WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier on Thursday, the White House said Obama was scheduled to visit Cuba on March 21-22 in a first visit by a US president since 1928.
Despite the rapprochement between the two countries, the United States continues to maintain a congressionally-mandated trade embargo on Cuba.
"We are exploring every area," Franco stated. "We are exploring the business side, education, hospitality, tourism, health… trying to cover as much as we can."
The delegation will travel Cuba on February 20-25 and will include regional leaders from Washington, DC and the surrounding US states of Maryland and Virginia as well as representatives of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, Maryland Executive Ike Leggett and Secretary of Commerce and Trade for Virginia Maurice Jones will be part of the delegation.
The purpose of the trip is to identify and secure economic opportunities and benefits for the greater Washington, DC area in Cuba.
