WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Trump received 28 percent of likely Republican voter support, making him lead by 5 percent ahead of Cruz, according to the poll.
In January, Trump enjoyed a 16-percent lead over Cruz.
On the Democratic side, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is a clear frontrunner with 60 percent of likely voter support, according to the poll. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders trails with 32 percent.
In the upcoming South Carolina primaries on February 20, candidates are expected to a face a more conservative and evangelical electorate compared to previous votes in New Hampshire and Iowa.
