WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Congressional criticism of President Barack Obama continued on Friday over a missed Monday deadline for a strategy to defeat the Daesh terror group, with Representative Ted Poe charging in a press release that president underestimates the terrorist threat.

"This is no surprise. This is the same President who seems to think that we are in High School, calling ISIS [Daesh or Islamic State] the ‘JV team.’ He refuses to believe that radical Islamic terrorists are out for American blood," Poe said in the release.

JV is an abbreviation for "junior varsity," the term for high school sports in the United States.

The 2016 National Defense Authorization Act required president Obama to submit a comprehensive strategy for defeating Daesh by Monday.

Republican lawmakers have frequently criticized Obama for what they call an ad hoc strategy against Daesh, in which the United States reacts to terrorist gains instead of acting pre-emptively based on a long-term strategy.

"The president’s current strategy of containment is not working. Confronting terrorism and emphasizing the safety and security of the United States is of uttermost importance," Poe maintained.

On Thursday, House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan issued a statement saying that the missed deadline sheds more doubt on the president’s willingness and ability to address the danger posed by Daesh.

Meanwhile, the Obama administration opened a third front in the war against Daesh on Friday by bombing a terrorist camp in Libya, as the United States continued to bomb the terror group targets in Syria and Iraq.
