KRASNOYARSK (Sputnik) – Ukraine and the European Commission have not approached Russia with a proposition to hold a new round of talks on providing gas to Kiev, Russian Deputy Minister of Energy Anatoly Yanovsky said Saturday.
"I don’t think there will be talks on the ‘summer package’ [in the foreseeable future]. Neither the Ukrainian nor the European side approached us," Yanovsky told reporters.
The trilateral winter package protocol stipulated that Ukraine’s energy major Naftogaz could purchase 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Russia’s Gazprom for $500 million to cover the period from October 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016.
Maros Sefcovic, the EU body's energy chief, said in late January that the European Commission had discussed the possibility of holding a trilateral ministerial meeting on gas with Russia and Ukraine, at which it would like to discuss winter season supplies and further work.
