Kalamazoo Police detained and identified Jason Dalton as the suspected gunman who opened fire on two vehicles at a buffet, townhouse and a car dealership on Saturday.
Authorities are investigating Facebook posts that Dalton, 45, dropped off a group of people at a nearby inn, went next door to a Cracker Barrel restaurant chain and allegedly opened fire at two vehicles, police told Michigan's WOOD-TV NBC affiliate station.
Four people died in the Cracker Barrel shooting. A father and his 18-year-old son were shot and killed around three hours later at a Seelye Kia dealership.
A 14-year-old girl declared the seventh victim earlier is reported to have survived in grave condition. An eighth shooting victim at a townhouse is expected to survive despite being gravely injured.
Investigators were reportedly searching for evidence at Dalton's home northwest of Kalamazoo to determine the motive behind the mass shooting.
