According to the Bangkok Post newspaper, deputy police chief Srivara Ransibrahmanakul met with intelligence, security and immigration units to discuss the issue.
The new security measures will include surveillance in public areas such as malls, as well as checking people who overstayed their visas and tightening border control.
In December 2015, local media leaked a letter in which Russian security services warned Thailand that Daesh was planning to kill Russian tourists in the country.
Daesh, which occupies vast tracts of Iraq and Syria and is outlawed in many countries including Russia, has gained much notoriety for conducting suicide bombings and other attacks worldwide.
In January, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said that the Thai intelligence was investigating reports that three people with suspected links to the Daesh met religious leaders in the south of the country late last year.
