MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Tehran hopes its economic ties with Ukraine will be developing in light of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) implementation, Iran's Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said Sunday.
According to the local IRNA news agency, Zarif told new Ukraine's Ambassador to Iran Sergey Burdilyak that he had already held "constructive consultations" with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin and called for development of both economic and humanitarian contacts between the two countries.
Iran signed the JCPOA with Russia, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany on July 14, 2015. The deal aims to ensure the peaceful nature of Tehran’s nuclear program in exchange for economic sanctions relief.
In January 2016, the United Nations, the European Union and partially the United States lifted their sanctions against the Islamic republic after the International Atomic Energy Agency verified Tehran’s compliance with the nuclear agreement.
