MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The MasterCard Identity Check software requires the card owner to blink at their smartphones’ camera, The Tech Times newspaper reported. This measure is meant to ensure protection against thieves who could hold up a picture of someone else.
"As the world gets increasingly digital, this will be the next wave of technology that will change the consumer experience of shopping digitally," Ajay Bhalla, MasterCard's president of enterprise security solutions, said, as quoted in the paper.
The new software will allow to make a payment without the need for pin codes, passwords or signatures. According to Bhalla, the move is part of the company’s bid to make commerce more available.
The pilot version of the facial recognition system is already in use in the United States and the Netherlands, according to the paper. According to the newspaper, the service will be available in 14 more countries this summer.
