The people of Bolivia voted against a constitutional amendment which would allow President Evo Morales to seek his fourth term in office in 2019, with 83.3 percent of the votes verified, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the T13 television channel, 53.8 percent voted against the amendment, while 46.2 were in favour.

Morales, the country's first indigenous leader, has served as the President of Bolivia since January 2006.

The country’s constitutional court ruled in 2013 to allow Morales run for his third stretch, despite a two-term limit established in the Bolivian Constitution.

On Monday, Morales vowed on Monday to uphold the results of the referendum.
